Retro Recipe: Saturday Pie (WWII)

It’s time for another recipe! First, the recipe. Then, me blathering onward about my occasionally questionable culinary capabilities and the memories this particular feast holds for me.

• The Ingredients
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Cooked ground meat of choice
  • Onion, diced
  • Gravy
• The Way of Preparing
  1. Using a pie pan, spread a layer of mashed potatoes down to make a crust.
  2. Layer the ground meat, onion, and your choice of spices.
  3. Top with gravy and another layer of mashed potatoes.
  4. Bake at 350°F until the ‘pie’ is heated through.
• Notes
  • It seems like it’s a precursor or wartime variant of cottage pie, honestly.
  • I’ve added sweet corn or frozen vegetables to it as well.
