1 Very Turbulent Flight

My trip to Florida ended today. I’m actually typing this draft up at 10,000 feet or something. But the ride is a little bumpier than I would normally care for; but since we’re flying through a bit of weather over Tampa right now, I suppose that’s tolerable. I just wish the dips that make my stomach drop like I’m on a roller coaster laid off a bit. There should be a beverage or something coming around as soon as the weather lets up. Yay for free food! Even if it’s just a tiny, anemic bag of pretzel twists.

The visit itself went well. I flew in through Midway to Orlando International. And then I  got to stay at Mal’s and Bubbles’ place. It was great seeing the niblings. I used to call them something else here, but they are definitely growing into their own people. The eldest nibling is seven years old and reminds me a bit of an old, Transatlantic accented actress. Makes me want to rename her Moxie or something. I think I shall. The younger nibling is a sweet, probably neurospicy six-year-old who rolls her eyes like it’s an Olympic sport. Not sure what I referred to her as previously, but I think she is now going to be Dulcie. She is sweet, but can be a lot in large doses. They both can be, but they don’t meant any true menace behind it.

Ooof, this turbulance is making me mildly nauseated. Thankfully, I haven’t eaten recently. I had a bite with Mal on the way into the airport back at like… three p.m. But it’s after eight pm now. I had a Diet Mountain Dew at the airport terminal. It cost me $2.75 for a damned single poptart pack, s’mores of course. And double that for the pop! I hate airport prices.

I feel bad for being tired out so easily this weekend. There were two or three moments where I just legit had to step away because I was very overstimulated.  Again, it wasn’t anything more than the niblings being kids, but I am so much older than the teenager that ran herd on half the damned homeless shelters’ kids. I did get to draw and color with Moxie and Dulcie. Moxie in particular has an interest in learning how to draw. I think I may send her some art supplies for the winter holiday. Dulcie likes shiny things, science, and echoing others. I might send them a rock tumbler to share or an activity bucket for each of them. Moxie might like digging in the sand buckets in particular.

This, of course, is all assuming that I find gainful employment again here soon. I dislike being unemployed. I am going to register at a local employment agency sometime this week, see if that helps. I also have a few leads to chase from Indeed. What with 75 applications put in, I was hoping for more of a response from some of the prospective employers. But I have gotten a nibble from a law office about 20 minutes away from the Parliment of Chaos. A close commute is important to me with gas prices kissing the underside of $5.00 a few times in the last weeks.

And… more turbulance is expected, I think, since the lovely flight attendants aren’t serving beverages just yet. That’s okay though. I am delighted that I have lost enough weight that I am actually able to use the damned tray table on the flight. So I’ll get some writing done, even if it is ‘only’ a blog entry. I could be working on my novel, but my brain is more focused on the micro adjustments of trying to sit up straight on a flying plane. It’s like the highway, but a million times worse. Mmm, perhaps worse is not the proper word. More intense would be more accurate. And even more turbulance hit. Pattern recognition can be a boon just as often as a curse, I suppose.

Owl and I are doing well. She’s so damn smart and challenges me to be a better person. She’s also a fantastic cuddler and makes me smile when I think of her. She’s sassy, sure, but nowhere near the cruelty of the hexwife. Sarcasm is a definite love language with Owl, but she is also fantastically kind and brutally honest, but has candor and tact as well. So she doesn’t say a whole lot from a place of anger or malice that I have experienced over the years knowing her. Almost seven years, I think? If my math is right. It’s not like I can log back into my long-defunct OKCupid account. I don’t even know what email it would have been tied to, what with me making it back in 2006!

Flying is still not my preferred mode of transport. Trains are. Always have been, even as a child growing up in Chicago and in the suburbs where the Metra and Amtrak ran.

I started re-talking with a new friend and potential date mate fairly recently. We had talked intially a month or two ago, but both of us had life run us over in more ways than one. So we took a break to get our respective heads on straight. His name is Bear; he’s complicated but hilarious and I really enjoy talking with him. We shall see how that develops.

I cannot wait to get home. The damn turbulance is killing me and my stomach. My poor seatmate to my left had a Chipotle burrito bowl that she hasn’t been able to crack open this entire flight because of all the turbulance giving us a ride.

We’re beginning our final descent now, so I suppose I shall sign off for now. Maybe I can get back into the habit of writing on a more regular basis again. Daily is the hope, but even once a week is a good thing.
Take your meds, folks.
