Still on a boat!
This is a pre-written post whilst I am on holiday with my Darling Wife and the in-laws!
So, while I’m gone for six days and seven nights, or something like that, I thought I’d run through a few of my favorite coping mechanisms.
Today’s is my secondary coping mechanism: writing.
I remember in middle school being told to write a poem for an assignment. It was fourth or fifth grade. And from that little poem, long-since lost to memory and the dozens of moves over the years, has come so much more.
I write to get stories out of my mind. I write to side-step the things I’m feeling or write to process them.
Writing has always been an escapist sort of release for me. Much like reading, I often indulge in times of stress.
I also, beyond poetry and fiction, write letters. While I’m on this cruise, I hope to pen some to family and friends, though they may not get sent until I’m stateside again due to cost. But I’m hoping to find a postcard or two and send them off to a few loved ones.
What’s one of your go-to coping mechanisms? I’ll be covering a few more over this week, as well as celebrating my birthday!
Take your meds, folks!
