3 Carne Asada Street Tacos Eaten
1 Happy I’m Home Spockers
So today was a paid holiday here in corporate America. I am grateful for the time I was allowed to spend with my family. But gods do people not know their own history.
I’m not getting into the details of the deaths from which Memorial Day began, a century ago, but I recommend one to do their own research before using this as an excuse to raise a Confederate flag and host a barbecue. The active ignorance of some people is astounding.
Anyway! Want a quick recipe? Balsamic vinaigrette is was easier to make than I remember!
- 1/4 cup good balsamic vinegar
- 3/4 cup good olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon of both salt and black pepper
- 1-2 cloves of minced garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika
- Carefully dump all the ingredients in a bowl.
- Whisk the living shit out of it.
I made Caprese salad, the above recipe mixed with spring mix, Finely chopped basil, some mozzarella pearls, and freshly halved cherry tomatoes (thank you Chelé for helping me through my aphasia when I couldn’t recall the name!).
When I got home, Fen and I had the idea to go out for tacos. Tijuana Flats is closed on this particular holiday as they are big into the celebration of veterans. So we went to Rocco’s Tacos and Tequila Bar. My honest review is this: our server Idina was decent, the noise level was tolerable, and the foot was utterly forgettable, even the elote, which I usually love. Drinks weren’t good, either. So. Not a place I plan on going again. After dinner we wandered the mall, masked up, to be able to go to Lush, Sephora, and the Mac Cosmetics stores.
My favorite soap from Lush is the Karma scent. And I found a new perfume/cologne I quite enjoy. It’s tobacco and vanilla. And another called Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent. I couldn’t find a store that sold any of Thierry Mugler’s fragrances other than the actual parfumerie in the mall.
I also priced out the repair on my necklace. It’ll be about $20. Not too bad to fix a family heirloom.
We tried to get a Café Corona after dinner, but the lady put too much cayenne in it and it was basically spicy coffee. It was rough.
Anyway, I’ve had a long weekend. I’m going to head to bed and get some good sleep.
Take your meds, folks!
