1 Amazing New Friend Met
This blog of mine went live in the immediate wake of my diagnosis as bipolar back in autumn of 2018. It is an online haven of my struggles, successes, trials, adventures, mishaps, and medical/therapudic experiences. It’s not for everyone, and that’s okay.
However, as I rounded the corner this spring into my fortieth year, I did sit down and Think. Yes, capital T “THINK”. I thought about my past, how it has influenced my present, and the possibilities open to me in the future. Getting laid off was… not in the plan. So, like the (self-admittedly poor) basketball player I was in middle school, I’m going to pivot and try to keep going.
No longer rocking Yorkville Middle School’s jersey number 13 as a point guard, pivoting is less literal these days. Thankfully, because I’m not sure my knees are up to it. Anyway!
I got laid off on 11th of September. It sucks, because I lost my health insurance, my therapy appointments, all that jazz.
I’m not completely destitute, though. I’ve still got a part time gig helping Poppy with her business. She’s so freaking awesome, and really honest with me. It helps that she can call me on when I mess up and it doesn’t immediately trigger the downward spiral.
I really need to get my website up and running. That means coming up with a menu of services, cost, timeline, and all that jazz. Maybe I’ll bounce a few ideas off people over the weekend. And I need to really hammer down the will and won’t aspects of my offered services.
I did go out this evening! I was social with a new friend! Not a romantic date, but a lovely outing nonetheless. I shall refer to her as Nera. She’s a local craftsperson, a tailor specifically. She even spins her own yarn!!! I think that is so cool. Her teenager, a non-binary tiny adult, who will be referred to as Kitt here, was part of the technical crew that ran the show we went to see.
Oh, and what a show!!! Okay, full disclosure: up until last night, the only context for the movie “It’s A Wonderful Life” was from the holiday parody-type comedy movie “The Hebrew Hammer”. Literally: something about a bell and an angel getting its wings. That’s all I knew. And it was usually shown in black and white? Dunno.
Anyway! The play that Nera took me to was a black box performance of “It’s A Wonderful Life” put on by the high school Kitt attends. But! It was performed as if it was a radio play performance! Which, I’ll be honest, when I was a kid? I loved audio books. That was before the level 3 tragic backstory bullshit happened with my ears. I loved the movie “Haunted Honeymoon”, which heavily features a radio drama cast! And it has Gene Wilder, Gilda Radner, and Don DeLuise. If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend it. It’s my second favorite Mel Brooks movie; and it’s only second because of Young Frankenstein’s existence.
So. I keep forgetting to post these damn things before I dose off. In my defense, I have no idea why. I will wake up to Spock curled up under my chin, around my head like a furry halo, or u set the covers, but my phone still on my bed. Whoops .
I’ll work on that.
Take your meds, folks.
